The Network is an alliance of the non-profit manufacturing representative bodies from across the four counties of the far south west. The Great South West pan-regional partnership is a support partner of the network. SWMN’s refreshed strategic aims are closed aligned to those of the GSW, allowing us to create a unified channel of communications to help spread the message that the South West is a fantastic base for manufacturing and to grow it for the benefit of the wider economy. We also liaise with a range of stakeholder organisations who have a particular interest in collaborating with manufacturers.

Cornwall Manufacturers’ Group

The Cornwall Manufacturers Group represents 60 of the best manufacturers in the county of Cornwall.

Dorset EMC

The DEMC does have a website and membership (informal) is open to any businesses that physically makes or modifies any product and are based in the County of Dorset (BCP & Dorset council regions).

The DEMC exists to bring together businesses of all sizes across the sector to highlight and address issues and opportunities, encourage support and collaboration between businesses, give voice to the local sector and raise the profile of Dorset as a world class region for engineering & manufacturing.

North Devon Manufacturers Association

North Devon Manufacturers Association represents the interests of manufacturing and our supporting service industries throughout Torridge, North Devon, Mid Devon and beyond.

Regular events include breakfast meetings and best-practice visits, as well as the North Devon Manufacturing Awards which celebrate the cutting-edge design, development and production output from our diverse community of manufacturing businesses. New members are always welcome!

Plymouth Manufacturers’ Group

Plymouth Manufacturers’ Group (or ‘PMG’) is an informal network of manufacturing companies from across Plymouth and surrounding region. Founded in 1977, the Plymouth Manufacturers’ Group (PMG ) draws upon over 45 years of manufacturing heritage, global connections, shared continuous improvement and innovation to support our members.

Our membership includes household names such as Kawasaki PM and Mars Wrigley, major local employers such as Babcock International, Princess Yachts and BD (Becton Dickinson) alongside innovating and ground-breaking companies such as Plessey, Silicon Sensing and Advanced Medical Solutions.

Collectively, the PMG membership employs around fifteen thousand staff in the Plymouth travel-to-work-area and has a combined turnover of almost £3bn.

Somerset Engineering & Manufacturing Forum

Backed by Yeovil College, UCS College Group and Somerset Chamber of Commerce the Somerset Engineering and Manufacturing Forum is a new platform designed to bring together the region’s advanced manufacturing, engineering, and defence sectors.

With 27,000 jobs in these industries contributing 17% of Somerset’s GVA, the forum is more than just a networking space — it’s a vital hub for collaboration, innovation, and growth.

Torbay – High Tech Cluster

With a rich heritage of technology, Torbay has an enviable cluster of multinational businesses focussing on R&D, product design and manufacturing in photonics and microelectronics.

Global leaders in technology like Lumentum, Gooch & Housego, Spirent, Queensgate (Prior Scientific), Effect Photonics and II-IV Photonics are all located in Torbay. These companies are committed to major ongoing investment in the region. Alongside these are other specialised companies in photonics integrated circuits (PIC) packaging such as Bay Photonics and other hi tech manufacturing. This has cemented our reputation as one of the most important locations in the UK for advanced electronics, and particularly photonics, knowledge and expertise.

Torbay Hi-Tech Cluster headquarters are in EPIC, the home of many of the region’s most successful technology businesses. The objective of the group is to raise the profile of the region as one of the most important locations in the UK for advanced micro-electronics, and particularly photonics, knowledge and expertise.
